Trying to build up your business and your brand voice takes a lot of work, we’re going to show you some reasons why you need a social media strategy for 2020.

Having a presence on social media can provide a ton of benefits and ROI for your business, but it can also be overwhelming if you don’t know how to use it or how to get started. Using social media correctly helps builds hype, generates brand awareness, creates a thoughtfully engaged audience, and allows you to connect and create long-lasting relationships with customers and prospects.

Let’s get into it!

Define Your Goals

What do you want or need social media to do for your business? Gain fans? Gain followers? Create sales? Once you define those goals more clearly, you will have a better picture of how you need to go about achieving them. These goals can be set in advance, but you should be able to change, add or subtract, or update them along the way. It’s important to note that these goals will ensure you have targets in mind and are working to support the broader vision of your business.

Create A Social Calendar

Clearly define all your social collateral and schedule it in an easy to use way. This may be a physical calendar, a digital calendar, or using one of the many third-party software’s, like Hootsuite. Your social calendar should be a living and breathing digital version of your business’s persona. It should look and feel how you want to present your brand or business and should include key messaging, sales tactics, and important information that is useful to your existing and potential customer base.

Utilize Your Current Network

With social media, it’s usually a slow start. Ensure that you’re leveraging your current networks both in business and in other personal social media channels, and ensure you reach out to all your past clients and customers letting them know that you’re on social media. This enhances the connection you have with them and allows them to see a different eye into your business. Make sure you ask your clients to follow, like, comment and engage with your posts, and re-share content when it resonates with them or feels right. This helps keep the conversation open, and allows for a lot more eyes to be on your business!

Be Consistent

Consistency is key! Be sure to fully commit to using your digital strategy and social media, and go full-force for the new year. This helps build momentum for your business and may differentiate you from competitor brands or independent identities. Ensure you’re active on social and digital platforms every day and that you’re interacting with your community.

Build Your Community

Building your community is the most important thing you can do as part of your digital strategy, and it’s all about creating long-lasting relationships and connections. Build a communication plan and a quick FAQ document that will better allow you to assist your community. Ensure you’re being real, and raw, and sometimes-unfiltered to create an openness with those who are listening and to show your clients and customers that you CARE.

Have you thought about how social can elevate your brand to the next level?

Have you been wondering how to add social media or digital content to your marketing strategy? It takes little planning and execution, but the results can be well worth it. It’s important that you streamline your goals, set yourself apart from others like you, and stay true to your brand voice.

When you think about how to optimize your social media, and digital media as a whole, be prepared for it to take another huge jump in 2020 with platforms like TikTok on the rise.? It’s important that gearing up for the new year and as part of your digital strategy that you are optimizing your social media. This is important across all channels and not just the most prevalent for your business like Instagram and Facebook.

When using social media marketing, marketers often have a lot of questions pertaining to frequency, what platforms to use, what content to post, and which tactics, in general, will be the most useful for their business. When building out a social media strategy you want to ensure that you’re covering all bases as possible, use all platforms available, and ensure that you’re constantly feeding them with content and engagement.

Let’s dive into 5 different ways you can optimize your social media presence for your business and show you some important takeaways when considering your game plan for 2020.

Use Hashtags On All Platforms

Hashtags are not only one of the most important facets of Instagram and it’s capability to reach many different people and niches, but they are also important for reach and engagement on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter as well. No matter what platform you’re posting on or using, hashtags are most important to be able to reach new people with your content and for people to directly find YOU through those hashtags.?

You can also use hashtags to help market your business, by creating brand-specific hashtags that you can continuously use, look for conversations surrounding your brand and sentiments, and find other hashtags pertaining to or trending within your specific niche.

Schedule Your Content

Scheduling with platforms like Later, Planoly, Hootsuite, etc, help you ensure your band’s consistency when posting on social media platforms. 41% of respondents said they schedule their social media posts several days to one week in advance, while a total of 65% say they schedule their content at least 1 day in advance.

Scheduling your social media posts gives you a cushion and the ability to have a presence even if you’re entirely swamped in other work, or in case of unforeseen circumstances. This completely ensures you don’t forget to post regularly, which ties into consistency. Social media scheduling may infer success, and is ultimately is the best way to make sure you maintain it your brand’s voice and appearance in the digital world.

Utilize Video Content

Imagery is great, but it’s also usually static. This goes for all platforms, it’s very important to include some type of content on any platform that you are posting. Marketers who use video grow revenue roughly 49% faster than non-video users. The Instagram algorithm within this past year has really liking to video content over images.?

Not only is video important, it can further your engagement, reach, and for Facebook supercharge your targeting. There are many different ways to incorporate short quick videos into your 2020 strategy including, FAQ’s, explainer videos, animated videos, Facebook video, LIVE video streams, and looped video.

Post Frequently & Consistently

Consistency is beyond important and very key to growing your brand or business on social media. Instagram specifically wants people to be using the native app at all times, therefore the algorithm will favour the accounts or brands who are showing up on the app on a consist basis.

Although the algorithm is constantly changing, showing up for your community is key to growing your page and post frequently! Many marketers are reverting to the notion of community vs. content, in which you may post quality content frequently and consistently and allow yourself to build a specific community within your niche, therefore they may be more inclined to come back every week to see your posts. As a brand, you want to create content that your passionate about and is authentic to your brand.?

Hand posting on social media

Optimize Your Social Profiles On All Platforms

As a business, you should be present on all available-to-you platforms, which may include Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, Google My Business, WhatsApp, Tumblr, SnapChat and Pinterest. The most important thing within all these platforms is consistency, and presenting the same identity that you have on every other platform.

Ensure your profile consistency, optimize each profile to be the same, including the same or similar information, check that all of your contact information is correct, and ensure you have business profile turned on for platforms that have the capability. This will ensure going forward you have access to insights and analytics pertaining to your business.

Google Ads (formerly known as Google AdWords) have certainly come a long way since its inception in 2000. Google Ads now help millions of businesses compete for those few precious spots at the top of the Google search results page. Being at the top of the Google search page is so precious because, let’s be honest, very few people go beyond the first page of the Google search results.?

So how can we compete for those vital spots at the top of the Google search page? With the help of Google Search Ads, business owners can choose to bid for relevant keywords and serve potential customers Ads when these keywords are queried on Google.?

So without further adieu, let us explore how Google Search Ads can take your business to the next level.?

Google Paid Search Ads illustration of a computer and magnifying glass

Organic VS. Paid Search Results

It can be incredibly difficult to rank at the top of the Google search results page organically. Without the help of a search engine optimization (SEO) master, how can brands ensure they show up when keywords relevant to their business are searched? With the help of Google Search Ads, businesses can easily target search terms on Google that are relevant to the industry. Business owners should research which keywords are directly related to their industry and decide if they want to bid against their competitors for these keywords using Google Ads.?

Performance-Based Marketing?

Performance Based Marketing illustration of a computer and gears

A great benefit of Paid Search Ads is that it is performance-based. We’ve all heard of the saying: “50% of advertising works, you just don’t know which 50%”. With Paid Search Ads, you can gather real-time performance data such as the number of clicks and the average cost per click. If a campaign is underperforming, you can make adjustments or simply turn the campaign off.?

Performance marketing and Paid Search allows businesses to take a strict ROI driven approach to marketing. Business owners can measure the campaign performance based on various metrics such as the number of impressions and the click-through rate. The data collected from Google Ads campaigns will help business owners gain actionable insights and make data-driven decisions.?

Making data-driven decisions can drastically increase business efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs. Compared to TV and radio, business owners can generate better results at a fraction of the cost. It is essential for business owners that don’t have the budget to advertise on TV to start thinking about performance marketing and Google Search Ads.?

In-Market Audiences? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Google Search Ads Target Audience illustration of people

Here’s a great question you can ask next time you are interviewing a digital marketer: “What type of audience are you targeting with Paid Search on Google Ads?” When someone searches “plumbers in Toronto” that person is likely looking for a plumber in Toronto. You, the business owner, can directly reach potential customers who are actively searching for your product or service. By targeting the right keywords, you can capture audiences who are in the market to engage with a certain product or service. It is precisely this “intent-based” form of marketing that makes Paid Search Ads so irresistible.?

Target Keywords in Google Search Ads

Target Keywords illustration of icons

Keywords are at the core of every Paid Search Ad campaign. It is by having the right set of target keywords that allows business owners to capture in-market audiences with high purchase intent. Great practice for setting up your Paid Search campaign is to break your target keywords into themes. For example, if a shoe store is trying to increase its online sales, the target keywords can be grouped into different product categories like “Sneakers”, “Boots”, and “Sandals”.

Google Search Ads charge advertisers based on clicks to the Ads triggered by your target keywords. Specifically, advertisers pay per click for each ad. Every time a search happens on Google, a blind auction takes place between all advertisers who are bidding for that target keyword. A brand should research which keywords are the most relevant to the business and strategize around how these keywords can be targeted using search Ads.??

The keywords you exclude are just as important, if not more important than your target keywords. Negative keywords are the keywords that are excluded from your targeting. If your campaign has “restaurant” as a negative keyword, that means any searches with the word “restaurant” in it will not trigger your search Ads.??

Text Ads in Google Search

Writing great text ads illustration example

Attention is a scarce resource in today’s media landscape. You are constantly bombarded with snippets of information on all sorts of digital platforms. This is why having great Ad copy can take you a long way. As a business owner, you should choose your words carefully since Google Search Ads are text-based. The anatomy of a typical text Ad consists of three headlines, two descriptions, two path fields, a destination URL, and extensions.

Each headline is limited to 30 characters and not 30 words. It is often challenging to fit your message into such limited spots. It’s impossible to write in complete sentences with 30 characters so you want to write an impressionable phrase. It is critical to write the headlines based on target keywords. More importantly, the first headline should always have your target keywords.?

Descriptions are a little more spacious with a limit of 90 characters. You can write complete sentences here and speak directly to the benefits of your business. Make sure to end with a clear call to action such as: “Speak to Our Consultants”, “Call Us Today”, or “Act Now”. Ensure the Ad copy meets Google’s editorial standards to avoid Ad disapprovals.?

The final URL is the website or landing page you are driving traffic to. Having great text Ads and target keywords are only half the battle. No matter how well-written your text Ads are, it is useless if your landing page is not well designed. Ideally, the content on your landing page should speak to your Ads and target keywords. Check out this great article on designing a fantastic landing page.

The display URL is different from your final URL and it includes two “path fields” for you to include some extra keywords. The path fields are great places to include additional keywords that were not mentioned your Ad copy.?

Driving Business Goals Using Google Search Ads? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Driving Business Goals Using Paid Search Ads

Business owners can use Google search Ads to drive all sorts of business goals. Whether it’s generating leads, driving phone calls, or selling products, Paid Search Ads will directly reach your potential customers. A major benefit of targeting in-market audiences is that intent-based targeting is very much conversion-focused allowing you to capitalize on lower-funnel traffic.

Having a well-optimized Paid Search campaign also fits perfectly with your top-of-funnel awareness campaigns. Now that you know how Paid Search Ads on Google can boost your business results, go ahead and get your search campaign set up! Make sure to reach out to Consultus Digital if you get stuck creating your Paid Search campaign. We are always here to help you achieve your business goals!

Building your Visual Branding Strategy

Each day, you are bombarded with logos, fonts, colours that all fight for your attention. A disconnected rainbow of imagery that pushes you to buy some product, service, or way of life. This is not the result of some mistake, but rather a meticulous visual branding strategy that bridges the gap from the aforementioned visual elements and your audience. Now, move away from the advertisements and look around at the people around you, paying attention to the brands they associate themselves with.

When I say that, I don’t mean to look around the restaurant and mark down the people who are drinking Pepsi because this store doesn’t have Coke. I’m talking about the person who went out of their way to pick up a backpack made out of recycled components. The people who carry their Swell bottle proudly because they resonate with that brand’s environmental efforts. The people like you and me who have made conscious decisions with their purchases. People who care about where something comes from and the people behind it. Those who can spot a brand out of a thousand because they recognize it amongst the swarm of other similar logos and colours. I’m talking about those who value a visual brand strategy and its ability to inspire action.

What is a Brand’s Visual Identity

A brand’s identity is much more than its visual components, but for the sake of this blog, we’ll keep it simple and just focus on the parts that we can see. Some may say these are the most important parts of the brand, and as a multimedia designer, I would be more than inclined to agree.

These visual elements include your logo, colours, fonts, or any other visual components that differentiate your brand from another. When these components come together, they will evoke a feeling that will tell the story of how your brand is understood by each and every person who comes across it—at least it should.

The Key Steps in Identifying your Brand Identity

I’ve mentioned a laundry list of items that make up a visual brand in that previous section, but a laundry list is no way to learn how to build your business’s visual brand. So let’s give a shot at breaking it down into easily digestible components.

Logo

Black and white Nike, Apple, and McDonald's logos.

A logo is the stamp of your company; the badge of honour that you put into your products, your merch, your output to let the world know that this item stands with you and your brand.

However, it’s so much more than that. Your logo defines the form and substance of your company, bridging the gap from the unknown into the recognizable. Ultimately,? it is what people will remember about your brand beyond your interaction with them.

When creating a logo, simplicity is king. A good rule of thumb is that if someone can draw it in ten seconds, then you’ve done a good job. Think the Nike swoosh, McDonald’s golden arches, Apple’s apple. I’d be willing to bet that if you put a pen in your hand you could draw each of those from memory (although I may have created a biased test by showing them to you up top). This is the power of a simple design. It becomes memorable, recognizable, and according to Siegal + Gale’s 2015 study titled Logos Now, people outright prefer them.

Fonts

The letter, H animating between a serif and sans-serif treatment.

When it comes to font, the key thing is personality. Pick fonts that suit your style and brand sentiment. A financial brand may benefit from a serif font because of its traditional look which inspires confidence and trust; while a lifestyle-focused brand may prefer a sans-serif font that speaks towards their modern and clean aesthetic.?

However, this does not always ring true. It is worth taking the time to review a series of fonts from sites such as Adobe Fonts or Google Fonts to find which font suits your brand the best. You’ll also need to find the ways in which you can match fonts to broaden the horizons of your typographic treatment.

Colours

Colour wheel and a chart with each colour’s associated meaning

Like your font, you should use colours that relate to your brand sentiment. Brands with great colour schemes did not come across it by accident. These choices are vital in presenting your audience with the right message for your brand. When picking colours for your brand, take into account the psychological aspects of each colour. On the below graphic, you will see tech brands IBM, Facebook, HP, and Intel each with the colour blue.

IBM, Facebook, HP, and Intel logo in blue

The reason that each of these brands use the colour blue is that this particular colour is associated with trust. Each of these brands want their audience to feel safe with their data, to feel safe with their product, and overall, to feel safe with their brand. These psychological cues are important to understand as they dramatically shape the way your audience understands your brand.

For tools to use, I would recommend using something akin to Adobe Color to not only pick a strong core colour, but also creating a harmony of colours to compliment it.

Implementing a Visual Branding Strategy

5 Tips for Writing Effective Content

Content is King.?

To compete for your market you have to stand out and the best way to do that is through the content that you produce. The content you make should not only be readable but also unique. Using the following content writing tips will help you to break away from your competitors and stand out from the crowd.

1. Write Using Your Own Voice

When trying to write content for you or your brand, write using your own voice. Don’t worry about it sounding like an essay, this when you can get to sell yourself and your brand. At the same time, it is within the best practice to avoid humour and profanity. You don’t know who might be reading your content and they might misunderstand your humour. After all, the internet is not the most forgiving place!

Don’t forget to play around with font type, size, and colour. So that your BIG ideas stand out and create an everlasting impact.

2. K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

When you are very excited about a new idea or product it’s easy to want to talk about it for a long time. To get people as excited as you, you want to keep the message short – only sharing important details. Additionally, when writing it’s important that your layout is neat and the message is clear. Readers are likely to scan through the content and want to pick up on keywords right away Here are some ways you can keep you content to the point:

  • Use clear, concise headers to help separate your ideas.
  • Keep your paragraphs short and direct, the same with your words. For example, rather than saying in order touse the word “to”.
  • Get the message across in terms everyone understands. Avoid the use of jargon. You don’t want to limit your audience to experts who use that vernacular every day.
  • Take advantage of bullet points and create lists (like this one!).

3. Understand Your Audience

The biggest content writing tip I can give you is this: deliver content that you know your audience will be interested in learning more about. There is no point in wasting your time putting together content that your audience does not want to see. By understanding your audience you will know who to deliver to.?

You always want to know how they are going to find it. Critical to the entire process of content creation is making it accessible. Where is most of your audience’s online activity occurring? Text can be very well-written but if you don’t optimize your content for SEO it is unlikely people will see it.?

Another question to ask yourself is, what are some key terms that my audience would type into a search engine? A question like that will help you determine the language and keywords to use.

4. Use Visuals

Graphics are a powerful medium to get your message across and also support your text. Visuals are best when there is minimal (or no) text. Take full advantage of adding in some images, videos, and infographics. People are four times more likely to retain information when there is a visual component included in your content.

Computer screen displaying examples of visual charts to understand data.

5. Edit, Edit, Edit!

The importance of reading over your work cannot be stressed enough! Misspelled words and faulty punctuation can deter your viewer from reading the rest of your message.?

Sometimes it is hard to spot the error when you have been working on the same document for a long time. Take a break from writing, go for a walk, work on a different task, or grab a coffee. It’s also helpful to have someone else take a look at what you are writing. They can help spot any missed errors, but also make sure that the message you are trying to get across is understood.

Additionally, there are a plethora of tools online to help ensure that your content is authentic and readable, including the following:

  • Grammarly is a FREE, online application that checks for grammar and spelling mistakes. It offers a premium service that checks for plagiarism. It works to make sure your content is 100% authentic.
  • Hemingway App is a great editing tool that looks more at sentence structure and grammar. It points out if your sentence is too complicated. It also identifies words that need changing.
  • SelfControl This is an application for macOS. It blocks you from using sites that you deem to be unproductive. After you identify the sites you want zero access to, you set a timer that will restrict your access to those sites for a set amount of time. This is a great tool when you want to focus and be productive.

If you can apply all these content writing tips into practice, your content will definitely be successful. If you have any other questions regarding content and the digital space, check out our blog or reach out to us!?

Now, go on and create some mind-blowing content!

In this blog we will discuss is How To Best Utilize Experiential Marketing for your business. We will focus on experiential marketing initiatives that drive ROI and allow you to gain better traction with consumers, and their counterparts. Often there is a drive to determine your customer profiles based on analytics and data through technological systems. When you utilize experiential marketing it allows you to create long-lasting relationships, have special moments in time with real-life customers, and physically see customer reactions, all while raising brand awareness.

Creating face value with your clients and customers allows transparency and allows a deeper connection to be made between the consumer and brand. Experiences, activations, and community outreach are all versions of experiential marketing initiatives, and often their success depends on what works best for your customer base and how often you do them.

This is a quick breakdown of how to best utilize experiential marketing for your business. As a business owner, this will help you go against the grain and push boundaries when it comes to raising brand awareness and targeting your audience.

What Is Experiential Marketing?

Experiential marketing is a way for you to create long-lasting relationships with your customer base, and collect real-time data within the moment of an interaction. This allows you to see important and real customer reactions and have an active understanding of your products and how they are viewed in the eyes of the public consumer. By creating experiences between your consumer and your brand, you add face-to-face value, that allows you to captivate the audience, and focus more on building community.

Raising brand awareness is one of the most important things you can do for your business in terms of wanting to achieve goals and raise sales targets, see an increase in revenue, and actively try to seek ROI. Experiential Marketing is being able to show your clientele and customers what kind of brand you are, how much you care about the consumers of that brand, and how open you are to listening to feedback and criticism.??

Types Of Experiential Marketing

1.? Events – pop-ups, socials, concerts, free workshops

2. Experiential marketing tactics

3. Auto shows

4. Trade shows

5. Kiosks

6. Sponsorships

7. Test drives

8. Samplings

9. Contesting

10. In-person surveys

11. In-store experiences – coupon games, photo booths, celebrity guests, shopping nights

12. Face-to-face marketing?

Raising Brand Awareness

Brand awareness represents your customer base and how familiar your target audience is within your brand. It also determines how well onlookers recognize it. Companies with high brand awareness are generally referred to as trending, “hot right now”, or popular, such as Sweet Green, Louis Vuitton & Apple.??

Establishing brand awareness is valuable and at the core is a major part of your business’s foundation for success. By fostering followers and fans, gaining their trust and respect as a brand, you can utilize your brand awareness to help successfully launch new campaigns, products, and continue to grow your business. Raising brand awareness is important at all stages of your business, but most importantly during the early stages when you’re launching a new company. You’ll most likely already be using traditional marketing and promoting your companies products, which will likely lead to those long-lasting emotional relationships, and make it even easier for your brand down the road when you have a potential re-branding or sell or switch ownership.

Consumers & Experience

Experiential marketing is often overlooked, as it is not viewed as a key part of a digital marketing strategy. In a 2014 Eventbrite study, more than three out of four millennials would choose to spend money on an experience, rather than purchasing something more desirable. This speaks volumes to a company or brand because they can continually utilize this information for activations near and far. The ability to have experienced something and done something that garners a story to tell, rather than have something materialistic and tangible, to millennials is often way more important.?

Building Brand Relationships

Trust, authenticity, patience, and emotions. Building a strong long-lasting relationship with your consumers is something you need to do right off the bat. The little things, the giving-back, the ability to reach your brand that much further. The importance of building brand relationships is in the hands of the consumer, as they often can make or break your business.?

In the digital age with social media, we use social listening tools to determine and hear feedback from customers, collaborate and coordinate with their wants and needs, and have the ability to gain real-time feedback from the customers who are wanting their voices and opinions to be heard. The downfall of these tools is that we often lose the face-to-face connection in which experiential marketing can fix.

Utilizing Experiential Marketing

Experiential marketing works for the simple fact that traditional marketing is dying off and digital marketing is stepping in. Often experiential marketing initiatives are tied in with digital marketing or social media campaigns, for the simple fact of sharing the user experience online.?

Traditional marketing can be defined by the ability to communicate the benefits of your products or services through avenues like billboards, TV, and radio. Experiential Marketing takes your brand to the next level by drawing out your current, past, and new potential customers and getting them to experience first-hand what you have to offer.

Does Experiential Marketing Work for Every Business?

In most cases, experiential marketing can be an added measure to draw focus for a certain campaign, usually working for a variety of different business types. Although it may work for your opponent’s business, the simple answer is no, experiential marketing does not work for every business. This success depends on your customer base, target audience and the niche you may be in. Other reasons that Experiential Marketing may not work for your specific business are as follows:

1 . Difficulty measuring success – the ability to not always see the reactions in real-time (ie. hiring external experiential teams).

2. Reach too low – positioning brand ambassadors in only one physical place of your target audience.

3. Brand reservations – do not want to appear “cheap” or lackluster.

4. Lack of creative ideas – the inability to execute on experiential marketing initiatives within a certain funding budget.

5. Not well targeted – the wrong place or wrong time for your specific products.

6. It doesn’t drive advocacy – people underappreciating the “free” products or experiences.

7. Won’t payback/ROI – the cost for your business to execute, without having the traceability for ensuring your ROI.

Everything You Need To Know About Restaurant SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a crucial element of modern digital marketing efforts, and is an especially important concept for restaurants.

Restaurant searches are often some of the highest search volume terms in the world – 6.5 million searches for ‘restaurants near me’ are performed every month in the U.S. alone. On top of that, in any given city, there will often be significant competition with other restaurants to stand out from the crowd and win a new customer. Restaurants are also notorious for having razor thin margins that demand being at capacity almost every night of the week just to turn a profit.?

So how does a restaurant perfect their SEO and get to the top of Google?

There are actually a range of different things restaurant marketers can do to get ahead of the competition when it comes to Google searches. Read on to see everything you need to know about SEO optimizing a restaurant today!

Get Your On-Page SEO In Order

One of the absolutely essential elements of optimizing you restaurant for Google is ensuring all the on-page SEO elements on your website are up to scratch.

On-page SEO refers to any element that you have direct control over that lives on your website. This would include things like:

Meta information

Your meta information includes title tags and meta descriptions for all of your pages. These will be the blue clickable text and the text directly underneath it that shows up in a Google search. You want your title tags to include your desired keywords, for example, “chinese restaurant toronto”, and you want to ensure that your brand name is included in every title tag too. Your meta description doesn’t directly impact your SEO, but you need to make it enticing enough that a user will want to click through to your site to learn more.?

Another element of meta information is alt text, which is the written description of an image that is used by both Google and people with visual impairments to better understand your website. You want to ensure that every image on your website has associated alt text and that it not only describes what is in the image, but also includes a keyword here and there that you want to rank for.

Page Speed

Another thing you will want to optimize is the site speed, which is the amount of time it takes to load your website.?

Slow page load speeds are one of the leading causes of a high bounce rate (the percentage of people who click on your website but then leave within 3 seconds without interacting with anything). Your page speed can be improved by compressing image files, implementing lazy loading, and other more technical processes. Consult with your developer on how you can optimize your page speed for SEO improvements.

Navigation

Having a clear and consistent navigation structure is a must for any well optimized restaurant site.

This could be through clear drop down menus, implementing “breadcrumbs” that allow users to trace back their steps, or through an HTML sitemap in the footer of your website. By making your website easy and clear to navigate, you will not only improve the user experience, but also likely send positive ranking signals to Google as people will spend more time on your site and your bounce rate will decrease.

Ensure You Have Consistent NAP

Another huge element of restaurant SEO is ensuring you have consistent NAP across your entire web presence.

NAP stands for Name, Address, (and) Phone number, and is one of the key things Google’s algorithm looks for when it comes to local businesses. Google wants to ensure that when it sends one of its users to a physical location, they are absolutely sure that that place really exists. If Google kept sending people to outdated or inaccurate addresses, people would stop trusting Google for their local searches!

That’s why Google takes a very critical eye to inconsistent NAP. As a local restaurant, you will want to ensure that every citation your restaurant has matches up perfectly with what it says in your Google My Business profile. If Google can be entirely confident that your business name, address, and phone number are accurate, it is more likely to rank you for your desired search terms.

Write Your Menu Out On Your Website

Another element that many restaurants do not do properly is actually writing out their menu in plain text on their website.

A popular way of communicating a menu to potential customers is through hosting a PDF of the menu that can be downloaded to displayed on the website. While PDFs can be made to look very attractive and can be beneficial for? customers to download, Google’s algorithm can’t read PDFs in the same way as HTML code. Your menu can also act as a great source of contextual information for Google, as the kinds of dishes you are serving will likely reflect on the kind of restaurant you are.

Ensure that your menu is posted in HTML on your website so that it can be properly parsed by Google. You could also have a download PDF option to add further utility to your potential customers as well.

Reviews, reviews, reviews!

Reviews continue to be hugely influential in consumer behaviour, and perhaps nowhere is this felt as keenly as in the restaurant industry.

With over 84% of consumers trusting online reviews as much as a personal recommendation, it has never been more important to ensure your business is generating as many positive reviews as possible. Google My Business is one of the best places to garner these reviews, and will show up attached to your Google Maps listing whenever someone goes searching for your restaurant. Google’s algorithm preferences listings that have not only good reviews, but also lots of reviews as well, so try to encourage your happy customers to jump online and leave you a few nice words!

Google My Business isn’t the only important place to be gathering reviews. Try and get as many as you can on sites like Tripadvisor, OpenTable, and Facebook as well to boost your overall online reputation.

Influencers Can Be Your Friend

Finally, embracing the power of influencer marketing can be a fantastic way to boost your brand and convince Google that your restaurant deserves to be at the top of the page.

With the rise of social media came the rise of the influencer – individuals online who have created a personal brand that has attracted thousands of people to follow them and listen to their opinions and recommendations as if they were from a close personal friend. This represents an incredible opportunity for brands to piggyback off this influence and get their name out in front of a large collection of their target audience.

Restaurants can use this in particular by inviting influencers to come and dine at their restaurants and document their experience for their audience. By showing their followers what a great time they had, as well as including links to your website and Google My Business listing, you can not only increase brand awareness and traffic to your site, but you can also generate some really powerful backlinks to your site for Google to see.?

Restaurants stand to gain (or lose) a huge amount of foot traffic through SEO. A properly executed SEO setup and maintenance can result in improved Google rankings, increased brand recognition, and busy nights every day of the week. Combined with an effective influencer campaign and digital marketing program, and your restaurant could become the hottest place in town!

As a business owner, you want to be able to address all avenues of potential revenue, including how to utilize Instagram Shopping for your business. Do you have your own business but no means to have a physical storefront? Are you an e-commerce brand that’s launching with new products where you also want to have a social media presence? Ask yourself a few of these questions, and if you’re answering yes, you may be the perfect candidate for Instagram Shopping.

Online and e-commerce brands only continue to grow, and Instagram is now allowing businesses to have virtual and immersive storefronts living on their Instagram business profiles. This feature is basically a virtual shopping mall that allows you to view pricing, sizing, colour options, and the link to buy with just a quick tap of the tag on an image, making online shopping that much easier!

Let’s dive into How To Utilize Instagram Shopping For Your Business, how to get it on your profile, and why the features are a benefit to your business.

Instagram Shopping Statistics

In the world of online shopping, many users look to in-app shopping channels such as Shopify, Dote, and Amazon. Online Shopping off Instagram could be a $10 billion market by 2021, according to Deutsche Bank, and the Instagram platform continues to allow brands to engage with all shoppers beyond their own product websites and physical stores. Instagram says that 80% of the app’s users follow a business, and usually, it’s more than one. In other statistics, Instagram has commented on the fact that more than 130 million users every month tap Instagram posts to see shopping product tags, which is why this avenue has become increasingly more popular year-over-year, since testing in 2016 and finally launching in 2017. Think about how important it is to your own brand and its potential to reach that many people!

What Are Instagram Shopping Posts?

Instagram Shopping posts are feed or story content that has physical products tagged within the image. By adding product tags to your image on Instagram, the physical product and link will be pulled from your Facebook Business page product catalogue. This ensures consistency across the brand platforms and allows for the proper product information to be pulled in directly from your Shopify website & Facebook page. These posts feature tappable tags, just as if you were tagging a friend or another brand within an image. Patrons of your business may also be inclined to search on the Explore Tab on Instagram for certain products they are looking for, and your posts product tags will be searchable.?

Why Creating A Shoppable Instagram Feed Is Important?

This feature is important for business owners because it gives Instagram users the ability to shop your products, business, and website, without leaving the Instagram app. As part of an e-commerce strategy or overall digital marketing strategy, this completely changes the shopping and user experience of your website and allows for additional activations and revenue to flourish. If you are an emerging brand that already has a social media following, or you’re just a new brand starting off, it’s important to create visibility for your brand on the platform. Ensuring your products are live and shoppable on your feed also helps with building habits from your customer base and existing clients, driving anticipation for new product launches and making cultural and emotional connections with your fans.
